Gotta GAIN Some Weight

September 30, 2007 Petr Bokuvka Leave a comment

I am probably the only person in the two hundred-kilometer radius from Brno who needs to put on some weight.

If you have ever seen athletes from Kenya running 5 kilometers, I look like one of them. Probably because I was indeed track-and-field athlete when I was a kid so the metabolism I developed back then is with me until these days.

I do have my eat-like-a-horse moments but nothing works. It’s because your eating habits suck, my best girl friend tells me. You need to have more things on your usual menu, she added.

So– does anyone know a good nutrition specialist in Brno? I need him/her to do a list of things I should start to eat. Need some 4 to 5 kilograms…

Czech Government At Work

September 30, 2007 Petr Bokuvka Leave a comment

The Union of Men demands that the Minister For Minorities be sacked by the prime minister. Why? Because in an attempt to set equal opportunities for men/women and minorities it discriminates men.

Sounds funny? But it is rather ironic, really. In the Select Committee for Equal Opportunities that has 22 members there are twelve women and ten men, iDNES.cz news server reports.

Four Kids Killed In A Crash

September 28, 2007 Petr Bokuvka Leave a comment

It is high time Czech parents adopted a new advice approach to their teenage kids.

Aside from use a condom and don’t do drugs, the kids should now be ordered not to accept I-will-give-you-a-ride-home offers. In the Czech Republic having a car at the age of 18-20 still means “certain social status” and, let’s admit it, sixteen year-old chicks dig it when you are twenty and have a car.

FOUR people were killed and two were injured in an accident last night. The car crashed into two trees and practically fell apart. All the passengers were 15 to18 years old [the legal age for driving a car is 18]. The kids were probably returning home from a club, as Friday September 28 is a no-school national holiday.

FOUR plus TWO is SIX. SIX people in a car that only FIVE people can get into.

It is a deadly combination: at the age of seventeen you can get drunk [well, legally you CAN'T but kids do it] but if you miss your curfew you can’t get home. So the kids accept a ride home from a person who does have a car and wants to impress chicks. He drives fast and he kills three other people.

Details and further comments to come…

Developing Story: Soldiers Tortured Their Colleague

September 27, 2007 Petr Bokuvka Leave a comment

I am so fucking pissed.

Professional soldiers from special chemical warfare unit from Liberec tortured their colleague. They held him tight on a bench and sprayed him with water. And there was some punching, too.

The Code Red behavior was taped and you can see the recording (let’s hope the multimedia player works).

The police saw the video but the result of the investigation is shocking: it is not enough for the soldiers to be charged with a felony behavior for which they can spend some time in jail. According to police investigation it is ONLY misdemeanor for which the violent soldiers can only pay a fine in the amount of 50,000 Czech crowns.

Wow. So in the Czech Republic you can violently attack a person, a fellow soldier even, and you won’t go to jail even in case you are taped while doing so.

One week after this incident the soldier was once again attacked by the soldier who was “in charge” of the spraying, as a result of which the victim spent over two weeks on sick leave. Again, misdemeanor.

UPDATE ON FRIDAY SEPT 28!!!! If you can read Czech, read the discussion forum underneath the article that discovered this. The soldiers from the chemical warfare unit argue there! They even exchange vulgar comments about one another and their commanding officers. Tough stuff. If THIS is one of the most expert units in Czech Army….

UPDATE ON SATURDAY SEPT 29!!!! Two of the soldiers involved in the torture are leaving the Army on their own. One of them is a female soldier. Not only that, the military police have changed the “qualification” of the incident which is now being investigated as a felony.

After a long high-speed chase through the streets of Prague, a patrol car hits a biker as he slows down. He is able to get up and walk over to a sidewalk. In the comments section most YouTube viewers expressed their surprise that the cops did not beat the sh*t out of this guy.

Child Porn Possession? A Felony!

September 27, 2007 Petr Bokuvka Leave a comment

There will be a new section in Czech penal code. Child pornography possession. The Lower House of the Czech Parliament has recently overruled the Upper House (Senate). Senators did not want to pass the law but the Lower House voted on it again.

From now on even people who have child pornography in their computers or on DVD’s could go to jail for up to two years, if found guilty

Senators feared that this penal code provision could easily be misused. Any hacker could place child porn into a computer or into a home DVD library of a person they would want to get rid of. Only those people who make and sell these videos should be prosecuted, which is what is happening now, senators said.

Same Taxes, Different Conditions

September 27, 2007 Petr Bokuvka Leave a comment

In a tram last night, I overheard a conversation between two women, obviously mothers of first graders. They don’t even have a normal English teacher there. Just some guy who spent one year in the States during a high school exchange program. Why should I pay the same taxes as a parent whose kid is taught by a native speaker? one woman asked.

Good point, from a taxpayer’s point of view. Some taxpayers live in a street that hasn’t been repaired for decades but they pay the same automobile taxes. But— such complaints, just like the one the woman on the tram mentioned, could well be turned upside down by the government. Some people could start paying higher taxes because there is a police station in their street and thus the neighborhood is safer…

I wish the woman mentioned the need for flat income tax. I don’t see any reason why people who work their asses off to make a lot of money should have more of it deducted than anyone else who works less for less…

Winner Of “The Bachelor” Revealed

September 26, 2007 Petr Bokuvka Leave a comment

Tabloid newspaper Sip (The Arrow) claims to have revealed the identity of the girl who “won” the reality show The Bachelor (Vem si me). A small wedding ceremony is said to have taken place in the girl’s home town.

What do you know– that is the best thing that could happen. The happy ending of a stupid reality show was revealed by a spoiler article weeks before the final episode is aired. That is what you get for taping such shows in advance and then broadcasting the episode weeks later.

Rumor has it (and in case of such tabloid topics the rumor is a huge one) that the leading character is not at all a millionaire. But he will be one after the show is over, no matter what the result is, because he should get some 1.5 million salary.

Excellent sociology experiment. After five weeks or so the girls should be asked “Would you like this man even if he did not have the money?” (assuming that he IS indeed a millionaire). I bet some of the girls would say no. And it is more than obvious even now that some wouldn’t.

From now on, all these girls deserve any guy they date. If they were willing to take part in such ridiculous matchmaking rodeo in which cows get killed one by one, hoping they would survive until the very end, then be it: if their next boyfriend is the most violent monster who beats them on a daily basis, it’s their choice again. The above comment comes from a man who would suggest life sentence for men who are found guilty of domestic violence against their wives…
