Pen For The President For 1M. What A Waste

President Vaclav Klaus will be inaugurated and sworn in. Again.

And he will sign the inauguration documents with a unique ten-of-the-kind pen that is valued at one million crowns. The tip is gold- and platinum-enriched.

The pen is a gift from a leading Czech manufacturer of pencils, pens, crayons, etc, Koh-i-noor.

Aha, so the company decided to give the president a one-million crown gift for the purpose of writing ELEVEN LETTERS (V-a-c-l-a-v K-l-a-u-s).

What a waste. They should have made a deal with him or with the Office of the President that the pen be only lent and sold in a charity auction afterwards.

I sincerely hope this is the case, or that somebody gets the idea. Otherwise it is just a stupid gesture in which a Czech company uses the president for a huge PR stunt… Hats off to their PR specialists, but hey — it is still a waste…
