Translating A Thesis? Hell

I have never translated a thesis.

Which is what I have been doing now. Its topic is related to mortgages.

I often have a big problem with texts that their authors did not write for themselves but for somebody else. A young student who would like to finally get her BA degree often writes sentences that she hopes her tutor or evaluators of the thesis will like. Ultra-complicated sentences. Or she would use professional industry-specific terms that she would never use in a term paper or normal daily communication while working in Fed.

It takes twice as long and my head hurts because I ofen have no idea what the author wanted to say — simply because she sounds inapprehensibly on purpose.

Some things just should remain in their source language
