Brno to Tibet: We care. But some of us do not care enough

The famous flag can be seen on various buildings all over Brno once again. Institutions, public or private companies and even individuals display it to say We care about Tibet.

The flag on the left can be seen on the building of the National Landmark Protection Agency on the main square.

However there are some rather interesting differences among Brno institutions when it comes to the question whether to display it or not. The Brno City Municipality does. And so do “small municipalities” of five Brno boroughs… And some high schools as well…

We always take part in this initiative to let people know that we do not want to ignore the oppression of the Tibetan peoples, says City of Brno spokesman Pavel Zara, quoted by the iDNES.cz news server.

Whereas this decision is to some extent political, the employees of the National Landmark Protection Agency, I am sure, do it as their personal decision and pursuant to the freedom of expression principle. One would expect that the flags will be seen on buildings and institutions that have something to do with fine arts, education etc.

But the seat of the regional government of the South Moravian Region ignores the Lhasa uprising anniversary. Again. This time because…

It is not like we are trying to make a statement. The councillors did not even vote on the issue. The last few days have been hectic and this issue was forgotten, spokesman for the governor of the South Moravian Region Jan Chmelicek told the daily.

Some online-forum people claim that the flag used by the Brno City Municipality is wrong, in terms of design:

According to Wikipedia, the golden edge should not be on all four sides, it should be omitted on one of them, as Buddhism teaches openness…

UPDATE:
And…money talks, obviously. TV Nova reported in news at five that the town of Prerov will not display the flag. Major local factory slash employer named Precheza has huge deals with China and according to city officials the town also has a partner town in China. However, the partnership is NOT official.

This shows that a lot of Czechs are as ignorant as Czech is small. Being used politically by a monk-king and his followers who worships him as a god and doesn’t even know it, it says about what kind of people Czeches are. Perhaps nice people with good intentions, but that is all.
