Czech teacher sex tape: the woman will not face prosecution

May 29, 2009 Petr Bokuvka 2 comments

The English teacher from the Czech town of Znojmo who was taped having sex with a former student (18) while her current student (16) watched and commented will not go to jail, the iDNES.cz news server writes.

Miroslava Prillerova, 29, was given a “trial period” of two years by the district attorney, so the punishment is not even court-ordered (as in “suspension of sentence” pursuant to the Czech penal code).

According to the news server the woman faced imprisonment for up to two years as she was having sex in front of a minor (ironically, the age of consent is 15). The police were also investigating whether the publication of the video on the Internet was illegal and the answer is no.

Prillerova left the school on her own shortly after the scandal surfaced, while her bosses were discussing “legal ways to fire her” (even before a trial).

Can you “punch” a woman, if she is in the armed forces?

42-19509721A friend of mine was recently involved in a bar fight. The most unusual bar fight I have ever heard of because it revolved around a discussion about the involvement of the Czech armed forces (mostly special ops) in Afghanistan, Iraq etc. In other words, peacekeeping units.

He is what you might call mother-nature-leftist person, i.e. one who is anti-war, anti-globalisation etc. In the same bar there were two off-duty female soldiers who kept making toasts and mentioning places they have been to and survived. When he approached them and asked them something along the lines of “Do you have to do it in public? Your assignment in Iraq that I strongly disagree with cost me my taxpayer money and it has zero effect”, one of the soldiers grabbed him just like Homer Simpson grabs Bart when he is about to choke him.

Since he is the make love, not war type the two only pushed each other back and forth several times and he backed off — but another friend that was there with us said that if you are involved in what might be called a fight with a female you know  has “the skills to kill you”, the police and the judge will consider YOU the weaker one.

Even a person like me who thinks that any man who “puts his hands on a woman in a mean way” shall spend the rest of his life in jail must admit that this is a very interesting legal argument.

Before 2004 when the Czech Republic still had one-year mandatory army service for men pub fights involving soldiers were relatively frequent. Now the army is professional and all soldiers, if in uniform, wear name tags at all times.

Swine flu in the Czech Republic: 29 year-old Czech Airlines first officer

The first mild case of the “swine flu” has been announced in the Czech Republic. Czech Airlines first officer, 29, was sent home to quarantine and seven of his colleagues were tested in a hospital.

Since the flight deck has its own A/C system, the pilot had no contact with the passengers.

Susan Boyle to record her album in Prague. Just like Paul Potts

British singing sensation Susan Boyle will visit Prague in late June/early July to record her album – with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. Coincidentally it is the same ensemble that cooperated with Paul Potts in the making of his album.

The orchestra previously worked with another operatic pop artist, Andrea Bocelli. Boyle’s performance has been on my top three list of music-related YouTube experiences of the last quarter. The other two are Especially For You sung by Kylie Minogue and Kermit the Frog (outstanding) and Closer sung by Travis (why don’t we have bands like this in the Czech Republic?).

ProtestFest: one thousand alternative culture fans in the streets of Brno

About one thousand people are expected to attend a festival of alternative cultures that is scheduled to take place in Brno on Saturday. This is what it looked like last year:

First they meet in a park where they build stages, play music, dance and display flyers and posters that address hot issues like the environment, arms dealing, CO2 footprint, etc. Then they march across the town to another park by a river which is in a safe distance from residential neighborhoods so that they can have all-night concerts there.

The CIAF airshow cancelled and moved due to scheduled traffic and cutbacks

The traditional CIAF air show hosted by the Brno International Airport will not take place here in September, the Brnensky denik daily wrote. The event will probably move to the airport in the city of Hradec Kralove that has general aviation and military movements only.

Of course the reasons why this decision was made are debatable: the organizers argue that the development of scheduled-traffic operations has made the event more complicated to organize, but the immediately add that the decision was also prompted by the fact that local authorities didn’t want to sponsor the event as much as they did in the past.

What “development” are they talking about? There are only three routes served by BRQ: to Prague, London and Moscow.

The Brno airport is located very close to two boroughs and the local people complained repeatedly about the noise and other things that bothered them: especially the fact that local businesses saw no benefits of this event, as all short-time profits were made by concession stands, restaurants, etc. built at the airport just for the event… not local pubs or hotels…

Croatia to Czechs: We increased limits for meat and dairy product imports

Croatia is the most favorite destination for Czech sea lovers. And since price is a huge issue for most Czechs, when it comes to holiday spending, Czechs like to bring their own food(stuffs) to Croatia. And they have become a laughing stock in this country, particularly due to their habit to eat their own food on beaches, instead of eating local.

Last year Croatia imposed strict limits as to how much tourists can bring into the country when it comes to meat and dairy products. And since Czechs liked to bring homemade schnitzels and Czech-bought canned food, they started to yell – even the Guardian noticed and made Czechs look like cheapskates. Deservedly.

Now, the Croatian authorities announced that these limits should be softer. Softer means 10 kilograms per person, instead of 1 kilogram.

I understand people have to save money to be able to afford foreign vacation and that they want to eat cheap. But I hate the attitude displayed by most Czechs who like to bring their own food to Croatia: That showed ‘em, huh?, i.e. the confidence in their own abilities to outsmart the system.

By the way, trying to explain to them that tourism spending is a vital part of the industry as such would be pointless. Trying to argue that holidaymakers must spend money at the destination – to make the place running – is the same thing.

The Vanessa Hudgens “scandal” and Czech family movies. Good to compare

May 17, 2009 Petr Bokuvka 3 comments

DISCLAIMER: This post might not be suitable for minors
and conservative readers

A reminder to begin with: A few years ago Vanessa Hudgens took a few pictures of herself that she wanted to give to her then-boyfriend. The photos leaked and surfaced…on the Internet. They were nudes, not porn.

And yet she felt like she had to apologize to her fans who might have felt offended by… well, something we all do all the time, i.e. get naked.

SMASH CUT TO:

Czech Republic, April 2009: TV Nova airs a certain 1981 Czechoslovak movie about a shy construction worker apprentice who seems to have zero luck with women [IMDb link]. The movie was scheduled for primetime program, i.e. 8:00 p.m. And this scene is what viewers can see about 20 minutes into the movie:

matej

Yes, about 10 girls go swimming in a pond later in the evening. They are 15-16 years old… and they are naked.

Yes, pre-1989 communist cinematography sometimes consisted in having naked teen girls in few-second shots in family movies and comedies, if it fit the script and if it was obvious that this is what people do.

Back in the 1990’s when the same aforementioned TV station aired Beverly Hills 90210 I always hated scenes in which actors engaged in sex, the scene would fade to black and the next scene would show the male protagonist waking up wearing a T-shirt and shorts. Guys under 30 do NOT get dressed after sex. Never ever…

A Night at the Museum

muzea_1

Thousands of people are in the streets of Brno tonight. Museum and galleries are going to be open until 11 p.m. for free. People can also visit fairs, wine tasting, medieval reenactments, etc. Special buses take people to cultural institutions around Brno, like the Rajhrad Monastery. The atmosphere is breathtaking…
