Give Your Doctor Twenty Crowns!

Czech doctors negotiated with health insurance companies today. Result? Almost nothing. Doctors want an increase of  payments for their services in 2008. Each general practitioner receives 36 crowns monthly for one registered patient. It means some 2 dollars.

The doctors say the level of money they get is almost untenable, they cannot upgrade their surgeries’ equipment and improve patients’ comfort, and that young people are not interested in the branch of medicine.

The GP’s demand 55 crowns but the General Health Insurance Company (VZP) only offers 42 crowns after the negotiations.

What the hell????? We are talking about lousy twenty crowns? I would give my doctor twenty crowns a month even though I pay my health insurance. It is not gonna kill me, and it is not gonna kill ANYBODY. If these quarrels aren’t THE reason to start paying for doctors’ visits, then I don’t know what is…
