Charlize Thinks Budapest Is In Turkey

In Uncategorized on January 28, 2008 by Petr Bokuvka Tagged: , , ,

Actress Charlize Theron visited Istanbul, Turkey, and after she had arrived she began singing odes to the beautiful city of BUDAPEST.

In a recent interview Theron admitted that “Budapest” felt like Cannes, France. She also said she visited a bazaar. Bazaar is Oriental tradition and is NOT generally to be found in Budapest, Hungary.

Mayor of the “real Budapest” responded by inviting the actress to the city where she can also see some traces of Oriental cultures. As the Tyden.cz news server reminds occupation of Hungary by Turks took place between the years 1526 and 1686.

Personal note: some readers usually respond to this kind of posts by saying that it does not matter and that they are sure I don’t know the names of U.S. state capitals. Well, 1) I do because I took numerous tests in U.S. Geography class at Provo High School and I kept getting A+’s; and B) there is a difference between the nation’s capital and a state capital… And Istanbul is not even the country’s capital…

  1. I’m sure Charlize made a slip of the tongue because she was jet lagged. People love to get excited about how stupid Americans are whenever someone famous makes a geography error. Truth is geography is not a high priority in American education. The rest of the world can congratulate themselves for knowing names of cities etc while the U.S. will continue to dominate many many many other fields. Charlize is a fine actress. The difference is, most Americans don’t get excited whenever a Czech screws up. Many Americans are too busy excelling in their fields to even bother with this story. But if it makes you feel better about yourself because you got A’s and B’s in geography, well then congratulations. Give yourself a cookie.

  2. Honestly, this is way worse (and funnier in the same time): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juOQhTuzDQ0

  3. Ms Theron is from South Africa, I believe, not the U.S.

  4. In the link Helena provided, the vid is no longer available. I checked to see if it was the clip from Jeff Foxworthy’s “Are you Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?”. On the episode, a grown woman is asked, “Budapest is the capitol of what country?”. She didn’t even choose countries nearby to Hungary. A fifth grade kid was laughing at her. The kid answered correctly. The woman was still confused and asked, “Hungary, is that a country?”. My jaw just dropped.
