When Your Penal Code Makes You Want To Scream

In Law on February 21, 2008 by Petr Bokuvka

This person murdered SEVEN people. And he attempted to kill another TEN, but they survived.

He killed the victims in the hospital where he used to work. They were patients.

He pleaded guilty.

He can only get life sentence.

And we can say “wheeew” because life sentences are very exceptional in this country and there is no such thing as “automatic penalty”. The judge could have said 25 years in prison.

Say again, why don’t we have capital punishment? Or, why don’t we have the cumulative sentence principle? Who the hell knows…

::UPDATED FEB 22:: In his closing speech the presiding judge said that since we do not have the death penalty this is the only possible sentence that he could announce. The man was found guilty on all counts.
