Legal age: 14. Finally

In Law on November 12, 2008 by Petr Bokuvka Tagged: , ,

The lower house of the Czech Parliament approved a major change in the Czech legal system.

The “legal age” will be 14, according to the new Penal Code. The same amendment was recently adopted by Slovakia. I must say it is about time. Juvenile crime is a big problem in this country. Especially since there are certain groups of people who send their children to steal on purpose, knowing that if they get caught nothing can happen to them, in terms of punishment in the court of law.

New classification of felonies and petty offenses. Petty offenses = a) ALL unintentional and b) intentional crimes punishable by not more than 3 years. Felonies are all other crimes. Alternative punishment shall be applied and used whenever possible (community work, fines, restraining orders, house arrest).

Brutal homicide maximum sentence is increased from 15 to 20 years in prison (I know, still not enough). WHAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND is why the aspect of accumulative sentence was not introduced, too.

BTW the aforesaid also means that the age of consent will also be 14.
