New law: mandatory gowns for attorneys

New Czech Advocacy Act amendment is going to introduce several new things. Among them is the requirement for attorneys who appear before courts to wear black gowns. The Ministry of Justice claims this requirement will guarantee decorum.

Nonsense. Attorneys generally wear suits just like in every normal country in this world. It is their uniform and it is a matter of prestige. Dressing them to neck-to-ankle gowns is not going to improve anything, prestige-wise. A good attorney is one who argues well and who does their job well, not one who wears a gown…
